Obituary of Edwin Diveny
Edwin F. Diveny, 87, of Crestwood Village III, Whiting, Manchester, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. He was a stock expeditor with the Irvington Board of Education for 20 years, retiring in 1994. Born in Orange, NJ, he lived in Montclair and Irvington, NJ. He and his late wife, Gloria Anfuso Diveny, moved to Whiting in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, Whiting.
While in Montclair, he coached CYO basketball. In Irvington, he coached PAL basketball, Little League baseball and flag-a-tag football. He served in World War II as a Navy amphibian veteran in the South Pacific. He participated in the New Guinea, Noemfoor and Morotai Island campaigns. He was in Leyte Gulf, Philippines when the war ended. He was a petty officer second class signalman.
He was a devoted husband and father. Surviving are four sons, Bill Diveny and his wife, Karin of North Wales, PA, Bob Diveny and his wife, Colleen of Toms River, NJ, Dan Diveny and his wife, Louise of Washington, Warren County, NJ and Kenneth Diveny of Whiting. He is survived by six grandchildren, Brian, Kyle and Kate Diveny of North Wales, PA, Sean and Angelisa Diveny of Toms River, NJ and DJ Diveny of Washington, Warren County, NJ. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Frank Diveny of Bloomfield, NJ, Thomas Diveny of Montclair, NJ, Doris O'Reilly of Bloomfield, NJ and Ann Towey of Bloomfield, NJ.
Relatives and friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:45 a.m., at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will be at Whiting Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or similar organizations is appreciated.
