Obituary of Charles Svec

Charles Svec, 92, of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 02, 2011 at Manchester Manor in Manchester. Born in New York City, NY, he lived in the Bronx, NY before moving to Whiting 28 years ago. Charles was a police officer for the New York City Police Department for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Anne. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting. He was predeceased by his son, Charles in 1961. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne; one daughter, Joanne Matuzas; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Sharon Svec and one granddaughter, Jennifer Matuzas. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiting. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
