Obituary of Catherine "Betty" Heuer
Catherine Elizabeth (Betty) Heuer, 90, passed away January 29, 2011 at The Pines at Whiting in Whiting, New Jersey, from kidney complications following hip surgery.
Betty attended Stephens College in Missouri and graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a degree in business. A native of Middletown, Ohio, Betty served in the Women's Army Corps in World War II and was a long-term employee of Armco Steel in Middletown.
In 1964 Betty married Rev. Bernard E. Heuer and moved to Lima, OH. They moved to Mars, PA in 1968 where they served St. John's Lutheran Home. In 1979, their work for the Lord took them to Whiting, NJ, to serve Christ Lutheran Church. Betty was active as church organist, choir member, a member of Lutheran Church Women's Club and Evangelical Lutheran Women. She dedicated many loving hours with her fellow quilters, in support of Lutheran World Relief.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Berthold and Anna Trettel, loving husband, Rev. Bernard Heuer in 1987, brother Frank and sister-in-law Margaret, brother Bill, sister-in-law Gertrude Kalk and her husband Rev. Willard Kalk.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Ann and Ed Barfield of Park City, UT, Tom and Patti Heuer of West Chester, OH, Steve and Valerie Heuer of Greenwood Village, CO, and Mark and Melanie Heuer of Burke, VA., seven grandchildren, Joe, Zac, Annie, Jack, Will, Jennifer and Melissa, and sister-in-law Anna Trettel. Four nieces and four nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews will also miss Aunt Betty.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hamilton Place, The Pines at Whiting, and Sol Amor Hospice Care.
Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. At Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetary, Arneytown. Arrangements are under the direction of Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiting. For directions and condolences visit us at manchestermemorial.net.
