Obituary of Doris McDowell

Doris J. McDowell, 92, entered eternal rest on Monday, Jan.3, 2011 at her home in Whiting. Doris was born in Elizabeth to Raymond and Kiziah Laing. She graduated from Baton HS in Elizabeth. She worked for Prudential Life before her marriage to Edmond J. McDowell, Sr. They were married for 62 years until his death. Doris and Ed lived in Edison and North Plainfield until they moved to Whiting. They were active for many years with The Jersey Jazz Society. Doris especially enjoyed spending special occasions with her family which includes her son, Edmond, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Oleh) Kaniuka, Scott McDowell (Kathy Tolles) and Matthew McDowell (Angela) and her great Grandchildren, Emily McDowell, Noah McDowell and Julian Kaniuka. She also leaves her constant companion, friend and nurse, Alacope Abordo. Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting.
