Obituary of Gerald Lee Ahrens

Gerald Lee Ahrens, 76, of Eatonton, GA, formerly of Manchester Twp, NJ, died on May 14, 2021, after a battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Atlantic, Iowa, and grew up in Marengo, Iowa. He served 25 years in the Navy which included tours on the USS Raton, USS Grayback, USS Razorback, and USS Midway. Jerry retired from the Navy in 1987 as an E9 Master Chief Master of Arms (MCMA) at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Lakehurst, NJ. He was a member of the VFW Post 10061 and Fleet Reserve Assn. Branch 124 of Lakehurst and the American Legion Post 6 of Milledgeville, GA. Jerry was an avid golfer; a founding member of the Blitz at Navy Lakehurst, and enjoyed playing at Little Fishing Creek Golf Course in Milledgeville, GA. He could always be found in the stands at his childrens’ and grandchildrens’ sporting events and was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan. He and his wife, Judy, spent many summers in their RV at the Long Beach Campground in Barnegat, NJ. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, George and Ruth (nee Magill) Ahrens. Surviving are his wife, Judith E. Ahrens; a son, Jeffery L. Ahrens and his wife, Nicole and their children, Elizabeth, Christopher and Isabella of Medford, NJ; two daughters, Chari Moore and her husband, Cecil of Browns Mills, NJ and their children, Devynn and CJ and Katie Lewis of Manahawkin, NJ and her daughter, Kylie. Jerry is also survived by two sisters, Kathryn Pundt and her husband, Ed of Homestead, Iowa, and Suzanne Jones and husband, Tom of New Braunfels, Texas. A committal service with full military honors will be held at a later date.
