Obituary of Agnes J. Hurler
Agnes Jean Hurler (Maloney), 92, of Whiting, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Complete Care at Whiting. Born in Elizabeth, NJ on February 27, 1929 to Henry and Theresa Maloney, she resided there until moving to Whiting in 1999. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. Jean met the love of her life, Herbert, while working as a soda jerk at Lenzen’s Drugstore. They married on October 6, 1951. She worked in accounting for NJ Bell Telephone before becoming a stay-at-home mom to raise her six children. Later, she returned to work as a Teacher’s Aide in Special Education for over a decade before retiring in 1990. With steadfast support and endless patience, she was deeply devoted to and took great pride in her family. She enjoyed telling stories and jokes, playing games with her grandchildren, and making every celebration special. She also enjoyed family vacations which provided the opportunity to visit most of the United States and its notable landmarks. A woman of great faith, Jean was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting, and an active participant of the Eucharistic Adoration Society. She was a member of the American-Irish Club and her sense of humor and quick wit will be greatly missed.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, Henry (a Trappist Monk), Lawrence, James and John, and three sisters, Katherine Sayre, Mary Linde and Margaret Folinus. She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Herbert T. Hurler, six children, Thomas (Jessica), Joseph (Alice), Mary Askew, Patricia (Seth) Noll, Herbert (Carmen), and Amy Hurler, nine grandchildren, Patrick, Brian, Kevin, Emma, Kevin (Anna) Askew, Katie (Evan) Miller, Grace Noll, Ana, and Pablo, and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Maloney and Joyce Maloney.
