Obituary of Sophia D. Barone

Sophia D. Barone (nee Kozloski) age 89, of Whiting NJ passed away at home on March 2nd 2021 surrounded by family and the loving thoughts and prayers of those who could not be present. Prior to her relocation to Whiting, Sophia had been a longtime North Jersey resident which included the towns of Wallington, Saddle Brook and East Rutherford. She was a graduate of Lodi High School. Her professional work highlighted her aptitude for math and included working in banking and accounts payable in an administrative capacity. Sophia possessed the heart of a homemaker. She took great pride in her home which was decorated in a warm and inviting style. She relished all activities related to the home including cooking, baking, sewing and especially gardening. She looked forward to the arrival of spring when pansies would once again become available. Her favorite wintertime activity was ice skating. During her lifetime, she had been a caretaker to many beloved pets. She was especially fond of cats. She loved to watch and feed the birds that visited her home and collected many books and statues depicting songbirds. Her favorite birds were cardinals. Her favorite day was one spent at the beach. The surroundings there, including sun, sand, seashells, and surf, served to invigorate her. She always studied the timing of the tides to allow for the most optimal swim at low tide. Sophia was a practicing Catholic and matters of Faith were an integral part of her life that gave her great comfort. In her latter days, viewing televised Sunday Mass was most important to her. She was a communicant of St.Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting. Sophia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Stephen Louis Barone in 2017. She is survived by five children Valerie Barone, Michael Barone and his wife, Jean, Stephen Barone and his wife, Louise, Linda Susan Calbi and Mary Lou Morrone and her husband, Paul as well as her cousin and dear friend, Carol Johnscher; her ten grandchildren, Kelly, Christopher, Ryan, Jason, Sarah, Stephen, Stephanie, Mark, Alexander and Theodore and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 10th from 3-7 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road Whiting, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, March 11th at 10:45 am at The All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sophia's memory to an animal shelter or hospice organization of your choosing would be greatly appreciated.
