Obituary of Richard F. Murdter
Richard F. Murdter, 87, of Whiting, departed his earthly home on Thursday, January 21, 2021. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Mt. Arlington before moving to Whiting in 2005. Richard was the regional supervisor for the NJ Transit Company, working for them for over 33 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Lodi Ambulance Squad and a member of the Lake Hopatcong Elks. After his retirement he was a school bus and senior transport driver. Upon moving to Whiting, Richard became a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. He was a member of the church’s Holy Name Society and a member of Our Lady of the Pines Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree Knights Assembly #1926. He volunteered with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Bingo and the Food Pantry. He also was a volunteer with the Cedar Glen Lakes Security Patrol, and joyfully served as an Usher for St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Charles, Sr. and Jane Murdter; three brothers, David, Charles, Jr. and William Murdter; one sister, Janet Golden and his beloved son, Richard Murdter, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his children and their spouses, Florence and Ken Montago, Sandra and Brendan O’Byrne, Michael and Beverly Murdter and Rosemary and Joseph Giordano; his eight grandchildren, Marissa, Ashley, Joseph III, Dylan, Cassandra, Stephanie, Danielle and Pamela; his three great-grandchildren, Mia, Christian and Gemma; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Marilyn Murdter; his beloved sister-in-law, Frances Moir as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1:00pm-3:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm, Monday, January 25th at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:45am on Tuesday, January 26th at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting.
