Obituary of Stephen J. Cassidy, Jr.

Stephen J. Cassidy, Jr., 83, of the Meadows in Whiting, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. Stephen was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ. He lived in Forked River for 20 years and Shamong for 10 years before moving to Whiting in 1999. Stephen was a NJ Turnpike supervisor for 20 years. He was a member of the Elks, Jaycees, the Lacey School Board and Lacey Planning Board and the President of the Home Owners Association at the Meadows. Stephen was a U.S. Army veteran in the 82nd Airborne Division serving in Korea and Germany. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting. Stephen was predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Angela Cassidy on June 10, 2020. He is survived by one son, Stephen Rella and his wife, Adrienne of Tuckerton, NJ; two daughters, Phyllis Simpson and her husband, Karl Hess of Barnegat, NJ and Leslie Cassidy of New Lisbon, NJ; one sister, Noel Quinn and her husband C. Robert of South Hampton, NJ; four grandchildren, Ashley Rella, Falon Alfrey and her husband, Kurt, Kevin Tenery and his wife, Megan and Kaitlin Simpson and three great-grandchildren, Liam, Julian and Ian Alfrey. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, August 2nd from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ with a Memorial Service at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home officiated by Reverend Dr. J. Francis Watson. Inurnment, with his wife, Angela, will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 3rd at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen’s memory made to the Popcorn Park Zoo, 1 Humane Way, Forked River, NJ 08731 or the New Lisbon Developmental Center, 72 NJ-72, Pemberton, NJ 08064 would be greatly appreciated by his family.
