Obituary of Virginia Kelly

On Sunday, June 21, 2020, Virginia E. “Ginger” (Peters) Kelly, devoted mother and beloved grandmother, passed away at the age of 83. Ginger most recently resided in Fredericksburg, VA but was originally from New Jersey. Ginger was born on January 1st, 1937, in Jersey City, NJ, and loved remembering her early years and Hudson County upbringing. She never shed her Jersey City accent or attitude. In the late 1960s, Ginger met and married Mark Kelly. Together they had two daughters, Gail and Judy, and moved the family to West Milford, NJ. In 1987, Mark suddenly passed away and Ginger devoted herself to making sure her daughters not only finished high school but college (and in Gail’s case, a master’s degree as well). Nothing made her prouder. Ginger moved to Whiting, NJ in the late 1990s and lived there until moving to Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 2018. Like her father, Ginger could—and would—talk to anyone and everyone. She was always in the thick of any situation, and her quick wit, good looks and friendly smile drew people to her. Ginger was an avid reader, visiting the library several times weekly. She loved the New York Yankees, a good nap on the couch, sunbathing, and beating everyone at Trivial Pursuit. Like her mother, Ginger could make you anything from a pineapple upside-down cake to matching Easter dresses. She was playful and happy, she sang songs and made up silly nicknames like ‘Mrs. Puddleduck’, she made sure she called to let you know she got home and never ended a phone call without saying I love you. She was uniquely Ginger. Ginger is predeceased by her parents William R. and Hilda M. Peters; her husband Mark J. Kelly; and her sister Doris J. Eich. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gail and Thomas M. Tedesco of Fredericksburg, VA; her daughter and son-in-law Judy L. Kelly and Robert J. Sudol of Roseland, NJ; her granddaughters Kendall and Harper; her sister Barbara C. Sullivan and countless nieces and nephews. Services will be held at a future date. To honor Ginger’s memory, the family asks that donations be made to purchase urgently needed personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical workers in their fight against COVID-19.
