Obituary of Edith Hummel

Edith Hummel, our amazing Mom and most ardent supporter, passed away on May 22, 2020. She was 93. She was born in Germany and came to this country at the age of 9. Edith was a good friend to all, a devoted wife and loving mother, who loved spending time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her passion for music, enjoyed playing piano, sang in her church choir and won many dance competitions. She enjoyed traveling through the states and abroad. She worked at Schering-Plough, Inc. in Kenilworth, NJ. She will always be defined as a strong, independent and resilient woman who dealt with life’s challenges, overcoming them with her relentless force of will through her unshakable pioneering spirit and positive outlook. For several years, she was the primary caregiver for her husband, Henry after he was diagnosed with ALS. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband, Henry and her parents, Gertrude and William Aisenbrey. She is survived by her three children, daughter, Cynthia D. Kunze and her husband, Robert of Manchester, NJ, son, William H. Hummel and daughter, Karen E. Buntemeyer and her husband, Bill of Washington, NJ. She also leaves grandson, Andrew W. Kunze and wife, Sue and their two children, Travis and Samantha of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, grandson, Michael R. Hathaway and wife, Lauren and their three children, Percy, Francis and Mable of Neshanic Station, NJ, granddaughter, Jessica L. Hathaway and her five children and grandson, Steven D. Hathaway and wife, Nicolle and their three children. Special thanks to all of the staff at Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living in Toms River, NJ and Complete Care at Green Acres Nursing Home in Toms River, NJ for their loving care and kindness as well as the comforting care she received from Caring Hospice Services. Edith will forever be in our hearts and her memory and love will live on through those who knew and loved her. Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiting, NJ is in charge of arrangements. A Graveside Service and Private Burial will take place at Hollywood memorial Park and Cemetery, 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, NJ 07083, limited to family, only.
