Obituary of Edward James Hoefling

Edward James Hoefling, 91, of Whiting, New Jersey, died Thursday, May 14, 2020. He was born on May 25, 1928, and raised in Linden, NJ, graduating from Linden High School. In 1952 Ed married the love of his life, Jean Polisse, and settled down in Rahway, NJ. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Michele. Ed worked at Alcan Aluminum as an inside salesman until his retirement in 1986. With his free time he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. In 1989 they moved to Texas. They moved back to New Jersey in 2002 where they resided in the Crestwood Villages 6 & 3. Ed was a proud member of the Rahway Knights of Columbus where he served in different capacities. He was ordained as a deacon in June of 1987 where he served at St. Mary’s RC Church in Rahway, NJ. Upon their move to Texas, Ed served at St. Margaret’s Church in Giddings, TX. After returning to New Jersey in 2002, he served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Whiting. He retired as a deacon in 2010. Ed lived out his final years at the Pines at Whiting since 2016. Edward was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Jean Hoefling in 2015 and son-in-law, Lonnie Schneider in 2003. Surviving are his daughters, Barbara Wills and her husband, Raymond of Toms River, NJ and Michele Albrecht and her husband, Martin of Manheim, TX; 5 grandchildren, Jessica Wills Saluri, Michael Schneider and his fiancé, Julie Gifford, Christine Schneider Grange and her husband, John, Raymond Wills, Jr. and his wife, Adriene and Timothy Schneider and his wife, Brooke; 2 step-grandchildren, Amanda Hart and her husband, Jon and Jared Albrecht and his wife, Lindsey; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaila, Aissa, Brett, Sydney, Caitlyn, Trenton, Maverick, Memphis, Brody, Logan and Callie and 5 step great-grandchildren, Grayson, Raynee, Saydee, Kylie and Wyatt. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Carmella “Millie” Giuliano and her husband, Edward of Florida. Due to the current situation with Covid-19, there will be no funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
