Edith Laffey

Obituary of Edith M. Laffey

I was given the gift of life and now I have to give it back. This is hard but I was a very lucky woman who led a blessed existence, and for this I am grateful. I have been spared from the unfortunate health issues I have witnessed that others suffer. I have lived a very full life and choose to be joyful for having reached the age of 93, rather than sad about having to die.  I now join my husband, Bill who passed on June 19, 1996, 22 years ago.

Edie (Thomson) Laffey was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey and was one of three children. Her sister, Ruth Samartino of Florida, survives her. Edie was married to Bill in 1949 and they were blessed with five wonderful children. She resided in East Brunswick, NJ where she and Bill raised the family and Edie fulfilled her career as an Executive Secretary in the East Brunswick Police Department. Upon retirement, Edie relocated to Whiting, New Jersey where she served within her adult community as President of the Association for many years. Crestwood Manor became her final destination where she maintained an active, independent life; known for always being a true lady and meticulously attired.  Edie died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 5th, 2018.

Edie is survived by her five children and spouses: Art (Nancy) Laffey, Chesapeake, VA, Greg (Chris) Laffey, Dallas, TX, Pam (Larry) DeAngelis, Beaver Cove, ME, Kevin (Shelly) Laffey, Billerica, MA, Patty (Tom) Scalabrini, Point Pleasant, NJ: twelve incredible grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be offered Saturday, April 28th at 10:45 a.m. at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 1130 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, NJ 08753.
