Obituary of Edward Hampson

   Edward Hampson, 87, of Whiting, NJ, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Community Medical Center in Toms River.  Born in Trenton, NJ, February 4, 1931, he graduated from Trenton Catholic High School in 1949.  Edward worked at De Laval, Delroyd Division for 43 years.  He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union and served as President of Local 6061 for 25 years.  He served on legislative, safety, education, political action and negotiating committees.  Edward spent 6 months as an intern in labor with the NJ State Labor Department.  He also attended courses at Rutgers on Union Procedures and Labor Relations.  He loved camping, fishing and hunting and ran charter fishing trips for years on Five Point Fishing Boat.  He retiring in 1992 and lived in Holden Beach, NC.  After retirement he moved back to Whiting, NJ.  He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting.    

   Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mae Hampson and a special friend, Joan Barnard.  He is survived by a step-son, Jerry Broadway and his wife, Ona and a step-daughter, Judy Flaherty and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Charles and Christopher Broadway, Michele Bailey and Michael and Debbie Flaherty and great-grandchildren, Kristin and Kevin Bailey and Kaitlin and Devan Flaherty.  He was very close to his many nieces and nephews.

   Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 20th at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 schoolhouse Road, Whiting.   A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10:45 a.m. at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting.  Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations, in Edward’s memory, to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, would be appreciated.
