Obituary of William Van Horn
William (Bill) Van Horn, 91, of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at AristaCare at Whiting. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he lived in Carlstadt, NJ for 34 years and was a member of the special police there. He moved to Whiting in 1993. Bill was a factory worker for Curtis Wright in Wood-Ridge, NJ for 40 years, retiring in 1988. After moving to Whiting, Bill opened up a yard business called Handy Helpers which he ran for 8 years. He was a member of the Residents Club, Bocce Club, Shuffleboard Club and Garden Club of Crestwood Village III. Bill was a communicant and usher of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. He was a member of the church’s Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus.
Bill was born to Clarence and Grace (Brennen) Van Horn in 1926. He was predeceased by them and his sister, Grace of Florida. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter, Melissa Van Horn of Texas and his brother-in-law, Jack Mansfield of Hamilton Square, NJ. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Joen (Fournier) Van Horn; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and JoAnn Van Horn of Wharton, TX and Eric and April Van Horn of Leawood, KS; his brother, Bob and sister-in-law, Liz Van Horn who also reside in Florida along with their two sons. Bill has one grandson, Thomas Van Horn, who, with his wife, Erin, resides in Texas. There are five great-grandchildren. Bill also leaves his brother-in-law, John Fournier and his wife, Rhona of Florida and his sister-in-law, Andrea Mansfield of Hamilton Square, NJ, along with several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8th at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Thursday, Nov. 9th at 10:45 a.m. at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimer’s of New Jersey, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365. Special thanks to the nurses and aides of AristaCare at Whiting, the Nostalgia Park Section, for all the wonderful care they gave to Bill.
