Obituary of Philip J. DeStaven
Philip J. DeStaven, 88, of Whiting, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, NJ. Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Florida before moving to Whiting in 2011. Philip was a truck driver for 50 years working for several different companies. The last company he worked for was Bass Trucking in Flemington, NJ. He was a court officer for Neptune Township. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was Commander of the V.F.W. Post 9697, Davies, FL, a member of the V.F.W. Post 10061, Lakehurst, NJ. and a member of the American Legion Post 1000, Trenton, NJ. Philip was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Assembly #157 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Philip was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph DeStaven and James DeStaven; his sister, Marie Coppola and a step-child, Jamie Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia DeStaven; one son, Philip DeStaven of Fort Meyers, FL; three daughters, Patricia DeRosa and her spouse, Julius of Whiting, NJ, Lorrie Bowden and her spouse, Jill Gunther of Wall, NJ and Heidi Rodrick and her spouse, Walter of Andover, KS; one sister, Anna Szuba of Florida; eight grandchildren, Tammy Farlow, Jason DeStaven, Julius DeRosa, Paige DeRosa, Cole DeStaven, Mitchell DeStaven, Lindsay Rodrick and Walter Rodrick, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Farlow and Nathan Farlow; three step-children, Jeffrey Barnes, Kevin Barnes and Christina Curran and 16 step-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be offered Friday, July 14th at 10:45 a.m. at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Inurnment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.
