Obituary of Robert G. McCourtney

Robert G. McCourtney, 45, of Whiting, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017, in Toms River. He was born in New Jersey, then moved to Milford, PA where he grew up with his family. He graduated from Delaware Valley High School, Milford, PA. He later moved to the Poconos, where he worked and attended college. He moved back to New Jersey when he got married. He lived in Freehold and Marlboro before moving to Whiting 14 years ago. He loved the outdoors, going to the Poconos, bonfires, and camping. Robert loved to cook and was great at it. He enjoyed music, art, animals, the beach, martial arts, and carpentry. He had a boat at one time and enjoyed going for trips on the ocean. Most of all he loved his sons, Liam and Evan. He loved to take them sledding through the Pine Barrens in New Jersey near his home and go carting. He would teach them to work with tools and build things together. He was a fun loving joker at times. What most people remember is his great big smile. Robert was predeceased by his mother, Gail; his father, Robert; as well as both sets of grandparents. Robert was a loving dad to his two sons, Liam and Evan McCourtney. He is also survived by his former wife and the mother of his two sons, Liora; his two uncles, Charles McCourtney and Gary Eschenberg; his cousins, Maryann McCourtney, Barbara Bates, Susan Nasso, Caroline McCourtney, Rosemary McCourtney Russel, Joseph Diaz and Jack Diaz; his friends that were like brothers to him, Joe Podrazil, Darryl McKeeby, and Ted Collas. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7th at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to be made to Liam and Evan's college fund, envelopes will be available at the visitation.
