Obituary of Robert H. Hopps
Robert (Bob) Hopps, of Whiting, NJ, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday evening, October 9th at the age of 92. He is survived by his four children, Holly and Joe Serokos, Steven and Carmen Hopps, Kerri and Michael Wilson and Jill and Steven Herr. He also leaves behind seven Grandchildren, Melissa, Jessica, Mitchell, Jake, Cassidy, Connor and Hannah along with four Great Grandchildren, Colin, Caitlin, Ella and Leah.
Bob enjoyed a career in the printing industry and after retiring from Hygrade Printing in 1990, he and his wife, Doris, moved from Ridgefield Park to Whiting, NJ and settled in Crestwood Village 7. His beloved wife of 48 years, Doris, passed away in 2006.
Bob was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He often boasted that he single handedly ended the war. The day he stepped on foreign soil, the Germans surrendered - obviously because they knew he was coming!
Blessed with a never ending sense of humor, you could always catch him joking with waitresses, shop keepers and fellow Crestwood Village residents.
For many years he volunteered as a Dial-a-Ride driver for Somebody Cares. He enjoyed the company of all of his passengers and looked forward to his time behind the wheel. At 92 he'd always laugh and say he drove the "old" people around! He will be missed by those who knew and loved him and we all know that this would really "Burn his ass".
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 13th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Somebody Cares in Whiting, NJ.
