Obituary of John J Moritz

John J. Moritz, 81, of Ship Bottom, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at Mystic Meadows Nursing Home in Little Egg Harbor. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, he moved to Ship Bottom 25 years ago after retiring. John was a Sheet Metal Worker with Local #19, Philadelphia. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Slate and Tile Roofers Union. John was a Past President of the AARP, LBI Chapter and member of its Follies Group. He enjoyed serving on the Ship Bottom Land Use Board; volunteering at the Star of the Sea Festival and serving as an usher of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brant Beach, LBI. John was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed fishing and a lively debate. He was an avid Eagles, Phillies and Flyers fan. John was a compassionate and warm-hearted person, who went out of his way for others. A true gentleman. John is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Moritz; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Liz, Bill and Patti and Daniel and Lynn; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Carol Moritz and seven grandchildren, Michele, John, Chris, Steven, Justin, Thomas and Samantha. He is predeceased by his brother, Gerald; sisters, Ann Cavanaugh, Helen Duffy, Dorothy Dilwicius and Elizabeth Walentukonis. A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m., Friday, August 5th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brant Beach.
