Obituary of Donald G. Schmidt

Donald G. Schmidt, 81, of Whiting, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at home. Born in Manhattan, NY, he lived in Sayreville, NJ before moving to Whiting 16 years ago. Donald was a machinist for the NY Daily News, Manhattan, NY. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion in Sayreville. Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie Schmidt in 2012, his son, Stephen Schmidt in 2011 and his brother, Ward Schmidt in 2014. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Donald Katona of Albrightsville, PA and Lori and John Zakrzewski of Sayreville; five grandchildren, David Katona and his wife, Ashlee, Virginia Henke, Christopher Zakrzewski, Zachary Schmidt and Connor Schmidt and one great-grandchild, Connor Cramer and one great grandchild on the way. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 18th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 19th at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
