Obituary of Thomas James Madersky
Thomas James Madersky, born September 28, 1924, passed peacefully at the Hampton Ridge Healthcare Complex in Toms River NJ after staging a determined battle to recover from a damaging cardiac event. Tom was blessed to have close friends and family in his company in the preceding hours bringing him joy, comfort and love.
Born in Newark New Jersey into the large family of Phillip Madersky and Katie Gozick, Tom was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters; all folks of proud polish heritage most of whom were lifelong “Jersey-ites”. Tom grew up in Hillside NJ and was a graduate with academic and national track & field honors from Hillside High School. Orphaned at a very early age, his dream of a college education would be forever lost due to his desire to serve his country and the abject poverty that totally encompassed him in his childhood years.
A military veteran of the submarine services, Tom served in the pacific campaigns during WWII on the USS Steelhead. In post war civilian life he advanced into a senior management role within the electrical switch gear division of Westinghouse located in Hillside NJ. Tom dedicated his entire career to Westinghouse and retired commensurate with the company’s relocation to the SE United States.
In his retirement years Tom, a very gifted pen and ink artist and amateur designer of two of his earlier homes, shifted his creative focus to painting with oils. Currently, his art work adorns the walls in homes of those who appreciated his talent and his incredible attention to detail.
Tom was a war historian. His historical acumen set him apart as a scholar and patriot with an undeniable dedication to his country. That dedication was only superseded by his undying dedication to his beloved wife Irene who passed in 2007 in his loving memory. Tom is survived by his son Thomas Madersky, daughter-in-law LeeAnne Madersky and granddaughter Katherine Madersky Hutton and husband Jason Hutton, and grandson Joseph Madersky. Tom will always remember his dad as a loving and caring father, amazing athlete, artist/designer and a brilliant analyst of world affairs.
Friends and family closest to him have been asked to call at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse road Whiting, New Jersey. The viewing will be on Wednesday March 30th at 10:00 AM. A deacon from the St. Elizabeth Anne Parish will offer the blessing. The military burial will take place at 1PM at the NJ Veterans Cemetery Arneytown Province Line Rd New Egypt NJ 08533. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301.
