Obituary of Dorothy Mae (Marquardt) Flauss
Dorothy Mae (Marquardt) Flauss, 89, of Whiting, NJ, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at Whiting Health Care Center.
She was born in Glen Ridge, NJ to the late Alfred E. and Mae Darling Marquardt. Dorothy grew up in Bloomfield, NJ. When living across the street from Bloomfield Fire Department Headquarters, she met and fell in love with a fireman, George Pierre Flauss. Dorothy also lived in Wharton, Toms River, Park Ridge, IL and then moved to Whiting, NJ.
Dorothy attended The First Baptist Church of Bloomfield where her mother was a member of the very first Sunday School Class. She and George were married there and continued to attend with her parents and two daughters. Dorothy was a foster parent to over 50 babies and spent much time in the church nursery. Later she was the owner/operator of Cedar Knolls Florist where she shared her father's love of plants and flowers.
Surviving are her daughters, Deborah O'Dell of Blairstown, NJ and Donna Grande of Whiting, NJ; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hale of Orlando, FL, Laura Evans of Blairstown, NJ, Shelley Harwood of Highland, NY and Gregory Stiehl of Blairstown, NJ; twelve great-grandchildren and dear friends. Mrs. Flauss was predeceased by her loving husband, George Pierre Flauss, a fire captain with the Bloomfield Fire Department, who died in 1987.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ.
