Obituary of Joan M. Carroll

Joan M. Carroll, 93, of Whiting, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015. Joan was born on March 14, 1922 in Albany, NY. She was the daughter of John and Alice Riley Schmidt. She had three brothers, Jack, Leonard and Richard. She graduated from Albany High School in 1940. Joan worked for the Coal Merchant Mutual Insurance Company for five years as an Assistant Underwriter, the NY Telephone Company in the HD Department and the Visiting Nurses of North Bergen County as the Secretary to the Director and Office Coordinator. She later became a Real Estate and Travel Agent. She married Richard N. Carroll, Jr. in 1948 and they lived in Schenectady, NY, Cincinnati, OH, Buffalo, NY, Mahwah, NJ and retired to Long Beach Island, NJ and in 2003 moved to The Pines of Whiting in Whiting, NJ. Joan enjoyed sewing, swimming, music, traveling and singing with, both, the Sweet Adeline’s and The Long Beach Island Singers. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Richard N. Carroll, Jr. in 2013. She is survived by her three children, Christine Miraglia, Rick Carroll and Allison Mitchell; Five grandchildren, Scott Engelter, Jason Carroll, Camille Carroll, Marcus Miraglia and Michael Miraglia and eight great-grandchildren.
