Obituary of Jacqueline R. Galli
Jacqueline R. Galli, 91, of Whiting, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 29, 2015 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ with her children at her bedside. The youngest of seven children (David Lellis, Joseph Lellis, Angela Lellis, Rita FitzSimons, Mary Braun, and Gertrude Crinnian Best) and the last surviving child of David and Angela Lellis (nee Mutz), Jacqueline was born in Rockville Centre, NY. She attended Fordham University, was invited to join MENSA, and worked as a secretary on Wall Street before meeting and later marrying her husband Enrico Galli.
Jacqueline was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, respecting all life, born and unborn. Jacqueline was a secular Franciscan, daily communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, and past member of their Rosarian Society and Choir; she formerly volunteered with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity at the Newark Soup Kitchen; she was a longtime active member of the New Jersey Right to Life.
Jacqueline led an interesting and colorful life, once meeting Babe Ruth on a golf course in Long Island, NY, where he jokingly asked her for a ride on her tricycle, “little girl can I ride your bike” for which she replied, “you can’t, it’s not mine”. She had the distinct privilege of being Mother Teresa’s chauffeur on one of her last visits to the United States. Jacqueline deviated from the police motorcade because she “knew a shortcut” through the Bronx.
Predeceased by her husband, Enrico (1997), her son, Joseph (1989), and her grandson, David Wood (1999), Jacqueline is survived by her children, Mary Anne Galli, Rosemarie Galli, Christopher Galli, Jacqueline Norrell, and Edward Galli; grandchildren, Nicholas Norrell, Alexandra Galli, Joel Galli, Carol Galli, Alexander Norrell, Joseph Galli, Daniel Galli, and Jonathan Norrell; one great-grandson, Ethan and many, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, July 6th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, July 7th at 10:45 am, at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting, NJ. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
