Obituary of Jr. Birch

Elbert J. Birch, 89, of Whiting passed away Saturday December 18, 2010 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Newark, NJ, he resided in Roseland, NJ and Virginia Beach, VA before moving to Whiting in 1982. Elbert was in the US Marine Corps, during World War II and Korea. He worked for New Jersey Bell for 33 years, retiring in 1980. He was predeceased by his wife Vera Beatrice Wilson in 2010. He is survived by two children, James R. Birch and his wife Betsy of Dover, NJ and Virginia Lee Smith and her husband Jack H. of Whippany, NJ; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m., Tuesday December 21st at the Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A service will follow at 6:00 pm. Interment will be Wednesday at Brig. Gen. William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorial may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
