Obituary of Charles Finnerty
Charles P. Finnerty, born July 3, 1925 in Detroit Michigan, formally of Whiting, passed away Friday August 27 at Community Medical Center. Charles loved life and lived it to the fullest. He served in WWII in the US Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific aboard the USS Marblehead CL-12 as a signalman 2nd class. As a civilian he worked in Michigan, NY and in NJ as a travel agent and circled the globe twice. In September 2009 he was awarded the rank of Chevalier of the French Legion of honor for his participation in the Liberation of France. He loved his books and classical music. He will be sorely missed but lovingly remembered by his surviving family
Charles is predeceased by his parents Viola E. Cowper and John T. Finnerty; his long time companion Dr. Marilyn Desbro; daughter Joanne Finnerty; brothers Robert and Ronald Finnerty. His beloved Coquette. He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Finnerty, Debra Borst, Lois McGuigan; Brothers John Finnerty, Loren Finnerty; sister Viola Genuardi; Nephews John and Robert Finnerty, three grandchildren Shawn McGuigan, Joanne Giannetti, and Carson Borst; four great-grandchildren Brandon, Cait, Tristan, and Madison.
