Obituary of Helmut Schwochert
Helmut Schwochert, 70, of Whiting Station, Whiting, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at home after a long battle with melanoma. Born in Cologne, Germany, he lived in Freehold before moving to Whiting in 1995. Helmut was a project manager for AT&T/Lucent Technologies in Holmdel, NJ until he retired in 2002. He was a radio operator in the US Army, stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1964. He was a marksman and received the Good Conduct Medal. He was a volunteer driver for C.A.R.E.S. Dial-A-Ride, Whiting and was a member of the Board of Trustees of Whiting Station.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; two children, Claus Schwochert and Lisa Terefenko and her husband, Mark, all of Florida; one sister-in-law, Ursula Weise of Germany; one brother-in-law, Walter Gromer and his wife, Doris and three grandchildren, Makensie and Nicholas Terefenko of Florida and Gabriella Schwochert of Beachwood.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11 to 12:30 p.m., Monday, August 2nd, at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
