Obituary of Sr. Furlong

John C. Furlong, Sr., 85, died on July 17th, in Manahawkin, NJ, at the home of his son, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Beatrice E. (Evans). He is survived by his six children, Jane and Peter Myers, of Oceanside, CA, John and Deborah, of Manahawkin, NJ, Carol and Craig Hoppock, of Hamilton, NJ, Thomas and Michelle of North Hills, CA, Brian and Laurie of Milwaukee, OR, and Frances and Ben Price of Cherry Hill, NJ; nine grandchildren: Ryan and Sean Hoppock, David and Laura Myers, Stephanie Casperite and her husband Thomas, Ashley, John, Mason and Owen Furlong; one great-grandson Liam Casperite; and several step grandchildren. Mr. Furlong graduated from Camden Catholic High School, attended the University of PA. He was employed as an engineer and manager with RCA in Camden and Princeton, NJ and Cambridge, OH. In 1972, the family relocated to Northridge, CA. John retired in 1993, returned to NJ and resided in Whiting. He served as a Port Security Officer for the US Coast Guard, during World War II. He was an avid reader, artist, hunter, and outdoorsman. He was a Life Member of the NRA and supported Native American causes. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service on Friday, July 23rd from 4 to 6 pm, at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ 08759. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital or St. Jude's Hospital for Children. For information and condolences go to manchestermemorial.net
