Obituary of Vera Birch
Mrs. Vera B. (Wilson) Birch, 87, of Whiting, passed away Monday, March 15, 2010. Vera was born in Stanhope, NJ on Dec. 21, 1922. She worked for Prudential Insurance Company until Elbert Birch asked if she would be the wife of 2nd Lieutenant Bert - Yes! And so we were married July 8, 1944. That became our life together. Vera and Bert were married for 65 years. They wore out three motor homes covering the United States, plus trips to England, Germany, Portugal, etc. Due to Elbert's Marine Corps assignments, they lived in North Carolina, Virginia and California. World War II was their largest separation. Vera did three trips across the country by train with many stories to be told. Vera and Bert were longtime residents of Roseland, NJ. They were both lifetime members of the V.F.W.
She is survived by her husband, Elbert J. Birch; two children, Virginia Lee Smith of Whippany, NJ and James R. Birch of Dover, NJ; proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friend may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
