Obituary of Sr. Helmstead
Edward R. Helmstead, Sr., 95, of Crestwood Village V, Whiting, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at home. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and retired to Whiting in 1977. Edward was a commercial artist for Decorated Metal Manufacturing in Milltown, NJ for 45 years, retiring in 1980. He was an active member of Crestwood Village V for 26 years. He helped organize the Village V Safety Patrol and was known as the "King" of Crestwood Village V. He enjoyed participating in the men's and mixed bowling league and on the softball team. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting and a member of the church's Holy Name Society.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mae in 1988. He is survived by one son, Edward, Jr.; four daughters, Eileen Stowell, Lois Tugya, Gail Hutchins and April Winkler; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and his loving companion, Viola Walsh.
Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 2:30 pm, Monday, March 15, 2010 at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting.
