Obituary of Augustus Allegretti

Augustus R. Allegretti, 84, of Whiting, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at the Van Dyke Hospice in Toms River. Born in Trenton, he lived in Groveville before moving to Whiting 17 years ago. Mr. Allegretti was a member of the Teamsters, Local 701 and Local 107. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and flew 35 missions as a Tailgunner on a B-24 Liberator. He was a member and previously a Junior Vice- Commander of the V.F.W. Post #8745, Whiting. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. He played softball in the Senior Softball League of Whiting. He loved to dance and loved the New York Yankees. He was a loving husband and father. He was predeceased by four brothers, Lou, Albert, Arthur and Raymond and one sister, Thelma. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen; four children, Robert, David, Nancy and Sarah Jane; five stepchildren, Michael, Robert, Daniel, Kathleen and Barbara; one brother, Henry; one sister, Alba; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9 a.m. at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will be at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
