Obituary of Sr. Weckesser
George J. Weckesser, Sr., of Whiting, passed away on Saturday, August 1st at home. Born in Bayonne he lived in Jersey City and Menlo Park Terrace before moving to Whiting Station in 1995. Mr. Weckesser was a Station Mechanic for PSE&G in Linden retiring in 1980. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as a Medic during World War II. He was a Communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Most of all, he was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather.
Mr. Weckesser was predeceased by his parents, Gustav & Catherine; his sister, Betty Dautrick & his two brothers, Edward & Henry. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary McGowan Weckesser; Six children, George, Jr. & his wife, Beth Lapow of Plainsboro; Catherine & her husband, Brian Jost of Florida; Robert & his wife, Linda of Colorado; Peter & his wife, Kerry Miller of Colorado; John & his wife, Danielle of Connecticut and Patricia & her husband, Harry Alexander of Hightstown; seven grandchildren, Katie & Patrick Jost; Shane & Jason Weckesser; and Caitlin & Christopher Alexander; and Aaron Weckesser. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Catherine Hromnak and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, August 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 11:00 am Thursday at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will follow at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in George's memory to be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
