Obituary of William Scharfenstein

William R. Scharfenstein, 84, of Whiting, passed away on July 19, 2009, at Kimball Medical Center. Born and resided in East Brunswick, before moving to Whiting in 1987. William enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Fishing Club of Whiting. He also volunteered his services to C.A.R.E.S. of Whiting. He was a member of the VFW Post 8745, Whiting, and the American Legion Post 25, Milltown. William was a Marine Veteran of World War II, during which time he was awarded two Purple Hearts. William is predeceased by his brother Oscar Scharfenstein, Jr., and his sister Rosemarie McMahon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Helen; a daughter, Gail Monzione and her husband Anthony; a son Scott and his companion Sylvia Hernandez; a sister, Ruth Fedak and her husband Elmer; three grandchildren, Holly, Anthony, and Nicole Monzione; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting.
