Obituary of Winifred Murphy

Winifred A. Murphy, Nee Devine, 95, of Whiting, NJ, passed away Saturday, June 20, at Dominican Village, in Amityville, NY. Mrs. Murphy was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Whiting in 1977. She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, New York, NY for 13 years, retiring in 1976. She was past president of Lady of the Lakes and a member of the Whiting First Aid Auxiliary. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting and a member of the church's Altar Rosary Society. Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 1996 and her brother, Richard Devine in 2003. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Jane Murphy of Garden City, NY; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sister Katherine A. Murphy, C.S.J. of Seaford, NY and Winifred M. and Michael O'Grady of Massapequa, NY; one brother, John Devine of Rockville Center, NY; one twin sister, Katherine V. Donahoe of Lawrenceville; two granddaughters, Jacqueline and Lauren Murphy and several nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Monday, June 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh, NY. A viewing will also be held on Tuesday, June 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m., Wednesday from the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting, NJ. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund, Brentwood, NY 11717.
