Obituary of Sr. Abbey

FREDERICK G. ABBEY, SR., 83, of Crestwood Village V, Whiting, passed away Saturday, August 9, at home. He was born in Newark, lived in Belleville and, then, Matawan for 20 years before moving to Whiting in 1988. Mr. Abbey was a Signal Inspector for Erie Lackawana Railroad, Con Rail and NJ Transit in East Rutherford for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Whiting and was a Lay Eucharistic Minister. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. Memorial Post #8745 and the American Legion Post #502, both, of Whiting. He was a member of Village V's Residents Club, Bocci and Shuffleboard Club, Bowling Group and was a clubhouse volunteer. He also enjoyed Bingo. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alberta H. McMickle Abbey; two children, Frederick G. Abbey, Jr. of Palm Coast, FL and Diane M. Abbey of San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren, Stephanie D. Luneau, Melissa M. Pineda, Michelle A. Nardone, Jennifer R. Nuncio and Christopher M. Abbey and eleven great-grandchildren. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiitng.
