Obituary of Roland Jacobsen
Roland S. Jacobsen of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2013 at the age of 87. Born in Jersey City on January 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Blanche Miller and Charles Jacobsen. During World War II Roland served as a Machinist on the U.S.S. Phaon stationed in the South Pacific. Roland proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 9 years, from 1943-1952, and was a lifelong member of the VFW. On April 24, 1952, Roland married Connie, and was happily married for 42 years until her death in 1994. Before retiring in 1981, Roland worked for Interstate Motor Systems and resided in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Roland was an avid sports fan and could be found on most weekends watching NASCAR, football or his beloved New York Mets.
Roland will be sadly missed by his wife Elaine and their Min-Pin, Gideon: his devoted children Roland C. Jacobsen and his wife Barbara, Cheryl Koehler and her husband Paul; his grandchildren Mark Jacobsen and wife, Christina, Matthew Jacobsen and wife, Lenore, and Paul Koehler III; and his grand-dogs Paco and Romeo. Roland is survived by his loving sister Francis "Honey" and her husband Gilbert, and predeceased by his brother Robert and sister Leisa. His many nieces and nephews will also miss "Uncle Roland."
There will be a Memorial Gathering Thursday, July 18th from 10 to 12 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 12 p.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. Inurnment will be at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a non-profit nursing facility, located at 70 Main Street, Emerson, NJ, 07630.
