Obituary of Jr. Miester

Deacon Alvin Charles Miester, Jr., 72, of Whiting, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, NJ. Deacon Miester was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA until he relocated to NJ following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He lived in East Windsor, NJ before moving to Whiting in 2007. He graduated from Louisiana State University of New Orleans with a degree in General Business and Accounting where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. He worked as an Insurance Agent with Miester Insurance Agency and was a professional photographer in New Orleans, LA for 40 years. After moving to Whiting, he did photography for the Catholic Monitor in the Diocese of Trenton for about three years. He was a member of Rotary International, Professional Photographers of Greater New Orleans, Professional Photographers of Louisiana and Professional Photographers of America. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1976. He was a Deacon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting, Mr. Miester was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Following the dissolution of the Father Hug Council in Arabi, LA, he transferred to Our Lady of the Pines Council 9852 where he served as Past Grand Knight and Financial Secretary of the Knights of Columbus, Whiting. Deacon Miester is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Laura Prieto Miester; two sons, Alvin C. Miester, III and his spouse, Jill Rosato Miester and Carl F. Miester, and his spouse Aimee Guillory Miester; one brother, Edwin Miester and five grandchildren, Emma, Sam, Ethan, Grace, and Madelyn. He is also survived by Aunt Annabelle Robertson Miester whose husband was H. Elmer Miester. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 8th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:45 a.m. at the church.
