Obituary of Sr. Cuomo
JOHN P. CUOMO, SR., 89, of Toms River, formerly of Whiting, MANCHESTER, died on Tuesday, January 22, at home. He was born in Utica, NY, but lived most of his life in Jersey City, NJ. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Jersey City in 1937. He worked for AIRCO and in June 1941 he married Sophie Kwityn of Jersey City. He entered the Army in February of 1942 and served 37 months in the European Theater of Operations. He participated in four campaigns. He attended an evening trade school under the G.I. Bill and later worked for Goodman's Furniture as a TV Repairman. In 1954 he opened his own TV repair business in Jersey City. During this time, he moved to Carteret, NJ and in 1961 he worked at the Westinghouse TV Plant in Metuchen as an Analyzer. He then went to work with NJE Power Supply Company in Kenilworth and Dayton, NJ, where he served as Q.C. and Production Supervisor. After ten years, he left NJE and gained employment with Avionics Instruments, Inc. of Rahway, NJ, where he served as an Electronic Technician until his retirement in 1983. He then moved to Forked River, NJ, where he lived until 1998, at which time he moved to Whiting, NJ. In December 2006, he moved to Toms River, NJ. He was predeceased by his wife, Sophie Kwityn Cuomo, in June 2003 and his sister, Helen Barber in 2006. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta and Marc Thalheimer of Forked River and Lorraine and Thomas Tedesco of Whiting and Seaside Park; one son and daughter-in-law, John, Jr. and Renee of Toms River; two brothers, Mario of Maui, Hawaii and Paul of Norwood; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A funeral liturgy will be offered at 12 noon from the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, N
