Obituary of Joseph Marzitello

MARZITELLO, JOSEPH A., 82, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Jersey City and was a resident there for 71 years, moving to Crestwood Village, Whiting, MANCHESTER, NJ, in 1996. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and attended John Marshall College under the G.I. Bill. He was employed by Woodward & Williamson Insurance Agency as an underwriter for 35 years. He was assistant to the Executive Director of Bayview Cemetery for 20 years; was an elected member of the Hudson County Republican Committee for 40 consecutive years, representing the 16th District of Ward A; was a Candidate for State Assembly and Freeholder in the 60's; was appointed by Judge John Grossi, Sr. as a member of the Jersey City Juvenile Conference Committee, serving five years in the non-salaried position; elected president of the Parish Council of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Jersey City and was Entertainment Vice-Chairman of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Spaghetti Festival honoring Msgr. Artioli's 35th Anniversary of his Ordination to the priesthood; was the Musician Agent for Local 526 of the American Federation of Musicians; was a member of the Hudson County Serra Club and honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Jersey City Council 137; was a US Army veteran of World War II; was a member of the American Legion D & A Skinner Post 439, Jersey City serving as Commander of the post for 5 years and one year as Hudson County Adjutant for Post 502 in Whiting, NJ. He was predeceased by his wife, Roslyn (Medina), his parents, Lucy and Michael Marzitello and his brother-in-law, Michael Colaneri. Surviving are two brothers,Frank and his wife, Antoinette of Margaretville, NY and Louis and his wife, Shirley of El Paso, TX; one sister, Rose Colaneri of Whiting and her companion, Raymond Jewusiak; a nephew, Joseph Colaneri of Millburn; nieces, Lucille Barresi of Livingston and Cammy Oxley of El Paso, TX; great nieces, Katie Colaneri, Jessica and Michelle Barresi and great nephews, Anthony Barresi and Christopher Oxley. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A funeral liturgy will be offered 9 a.m. Monday from the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1942.
