Obituary of Leo Prunka
Leo "Bill" Prunka, 87, of Crestwood Village VI, Whiting, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Van Dyke Hospice in Toms River. He was born and raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY and lived in North Babylon, Long Island, NY before moving to Whiting in 1990. Bill was a fireman for the New York City Fire Department for 25 years, retiring as a Captain in 1976. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting and a member of the church's Holy Name Society and Nocturnal Adoration.
Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen; three sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Jeanne, Timothy and Bonnie and William and Suzanne; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Polaski; one brother and sister-in-law, Alexander and Rose; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. ONLY at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10:45 a.m., Monday, July 30th at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting.
