Obituary of Patrick Powers

Patrick John Powers, 76, of Whiting, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at home. Born in Newark, he lived in Kearny before moving to Whiting in 1996. Patrick worked for Branch Motor Express, Newark for 28 years, retiring in 1984. After that, he worked for N.J. Transit for 10 years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Teamsters Union 478, Newark. and the American Legion Post 502, Whiting. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Patrick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine (Kathleen); one son and daughter-in-law, John and Claire of Pompton Plains; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Susan of Florida, two brothers-in-law, Mortimer and Patrick; four sisters-in-law, Mary, Sheila, Ann and Peggy and two grandchildren, Ashley and Julia. Visitation will be Sunday, April 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 9 a.m. on Monday at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Burial will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Van Dyke Hospice, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755-6423.
