Obituary of Joy Zitzmann
Joy A. Zitzmann, of Whiting, formerly of Holmdel, passed away peacefully April 8 2012, Easter Sunday, at the Rose Garden Rehabilitation Center in Toms River. She was born in Howard Beach, NY on February 22 1930, was confirmed at St. Barnabas Evangelical Lutheran Church, Howard Beach, NY in 1944. She graduated from John Adams HS in Ozone Park in 1948. Joy worked as a secretary for the Vice President of Young and Rubicam, New York City, until she decided to raise a family in 1960, but resumed the same vocation later at Bell Labs and various Doctor's offices over the years while still primarily being a homemaker. Joy was gifted with a beautiful singing voice. She was a performing member of the Sperry Colliers, Sweet Adeline's, Monmouth Civic Chorus, Church choirs, and sang at friend's weddings when requested. Joy was an avid crafter who loved to create miniature shadow boxes, make dolls, as well as being an accomplished seamstress. She knitted blankets, hats and scarves which she would gift to patients while volunteering for the Candy Stripers at the Bay Shore Community and other hospitals/nursing homes. She served as a member of the Crestwood Evangelical Congregational Missionary workshop and also performed as the voice of the talking pumpkin family at the Old Wagon Wheel Farm, formerly of Holmdel. She loved to travel, having visited Europe, the Middle East, as well as 49 of the 50 states.
Joy was predeceased by her sister Elsie Jacobsen, and brothers Bradley, Henry and Willie Andreasen. She is survived by her former husband, Theodore L. Zitzmann of Middleburgh, NY and four loving sons, Kenneth T. and his wife, Kim of Glendale AZ, David G. and his wife, Nancy of Middletown, NY, Steven T. and his wife, Anita of Toms River, NJ and Christopher T. and his wife, Erica of Schenectady, NY. Joy is also survived by her six grandchildren, Alyson, Dylan, Julia, Rebeckah, Emily and Madeline.
Joy's wishes were to be cremated with no service. Aaron Cremation Associates, Inc., Whiting, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Joy requested that donations be made to the charity of the individual's choice.
