Obituary of Joseph Harmon
Joseph James Harmon, 91, was born in Brooklyn, NY, and except for a four year stint as a Staff Sergeant with the 308th Fighter Squadron During WWII, lived in Brooklyn, NY until 1981 when he moved to Pine Ridge in Whiting, NJ. While in the Service he saw action in Africa, Sicily, Italy, and southern France and received several decorations and commendations. He was a member of American Legion Post 1872 in Brooklyn, NY. He worked for the Brooklyn Union Gas Co. (now Keystone Corp.) for 39 years as a Supervisor in the Customer Service Dept. He was also a Life Time Honorary Member of the Flatbush Council 497 of the Knights of Columbus. Upon moving to Pine Ridge, he joined The Pine Ridge Golf Club and was an active member for 20 years. During that time he held the office of Treasurer for 2 years and then became the Handicapper for several more years. He was also a member of the Deerfield Golf Club when it was active. He was also a member of the Old Guard #25 in Whiting. Joe was a 26 year communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Whiting. Joe is survived by his brother, William, also of Pine Ridge, and loving cousins, Catherine Ahlstrom of East Williston, NY, Lois Abrams of New York City, Barbara Barrett of Boca Raton, FL, and numerous other relatives. Calling hours on Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. Funeral Liturgy on Thursday at 12-Noon in the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting.
