Obituary of Sr. Leonard

Darrel Edgar Leonard, 80, of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at home. Born in Statesville, NC, he lived in Linden, Jackson and Inverness, FL before moving to Whiting in 2002. Darrel worked for General Motors Corporation in Linden for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge in Jackson and the Brunswick Lanes Senior Handicap Bowling League, Lakewood. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting. He was predeceased by his daughter, Robin Leonard in 1969. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Jean Reilly Leonard; six children, Darrell and David Leonard, Patricia Velleca, Virginia Skipper, Ellen Sorenson and Janice Leonard; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22 and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Rd., Whiting. A funeral service will follow at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Brig, Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
