Obituary of James Maloney
James Michael Maloney 79, of Whiting NJ, formerly of Trenton, NJ, passed away suddenly on April 2, two days before his 80th birthday. Born in Trenton to Margaret Mary and Matthew Joseph Maloney on April 4, 1935, he was a graduate of Trenton Catholic High School, Trenton State College (BS) 1957 and Rutgers University (MA) 1963. He also served in the National Guard. Jim taught at Ewing HS where he was an English Teacher and Dept. Chairperson until his retirement in 1991. He loved to teach his high school students and that experience made his retirement even more enjoyable. In his retirement he also worked as a part time copy editor and proofreader. He had a passion for reading and writing as he authored 4 mystery novels and "The Chestnut Avenue Boys", the story of the Trenton Catholic Boys' High School.
Jim was active in his community where he served in several functions for the Pine Ridge South residents, where he resided. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting.
He had a great sense of humor and an unwavering love for his family and friends. His family was his pride and joy as he loved spending time with them at family get-togethers, summer vacations at the shore, and lending a helping hand to his family, friends and neighbors. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his sons play sports while they grew up, attending their functions whenever possible. He loved gardening, creating keepsakes from wood or giving new life to an old piece of furniture. He lived a long life despite raising 5 boys that challenged his finances and nerves.
Predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Matthew and William, he is survived by his wife Helen Claire (nee Roche) of 57 years, his five sons, Mark (Linda), Paul (Susan), Brian (Tracey), Matthew and Brendan (Maureen) and his grandchildren, Kelly (Matt), Mark, Erin, Kyle, Keira, Emily and Clare as well as two great grandchildren, Grace and Casey.
