Obituary of Jr. Powell

George E. Powell, Jr., 88, of Whiting, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in Baldwinsville, NY he lived in New Jersey and Florida before moving to Whiting in 2003. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller in New York and Newark Airport for 36 years, retiring in 1988. George was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Jean Powell; four children, Kim Wedemeyer of Forked River, NJ, Mark Powell of Plainsboro, NJ, Todd Powell of Yardley, PA and Jeff Powell of Monroe Twp., NJ; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Services are private under the direction of Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, Whiting, NJ.
