Obituary of Walter Mertz

Walter J. Mertz, 71, of Whiting, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. Born in New York City, NY, he lived in Old Bridge, NJ before moving to Whiting in 1997. Walter worked for American Savings Bank in New York City, NY for 34 years, retiring in 1996 as the Bank's Manager. He was a member of the NJ National Guard for 6 years from 1964 to 1970. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Walter was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Barbara A. Mertz in 2012. He is survived by his sister, Frances Drgan of Spring Valley, NY and his nephew, Stephen Drgan of Highland Mills, NY. Visitation and service was Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ. Inurnment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, Lake Placid, NY in the spring.
