Obituary of Margaret Wright

Margaret M. Wright (Higgins) died Saturday, November 1, 2014 in Burlington, NJ at the age of 99. She previously resided in Whiting, NJ for 38 years. Margaret also lived in Pennsauken for over 30 years and as a young girl lived in Palmyra, NJ. She graduated from Palmyra High School in 1934. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Wright in 1992, master union electrician and WWII veteran of the Navy, who served on the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid. Margaret was one of six children of John and Margaret Higgins who lived to adulthood. Margaret is survived by her sisters, Mary Bozarth of Mooretown, formerly of Mount Holly and Sister Jane Higgins of Princeton. Three siblings preceded her in death, her brothers, Joseph (Palmyra) and John (Upper Darby) and her sister Catherine Cotton (Marino) of Mount Holly. Margaret also played a significant role in shaping, by example and presence, the lives of her many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Margaret was born September 12, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA. During World War II, she twice traveled by bus and train by herself from NJ to San Francisco to be with her husband while his ship was in port for repairs. Margaret worked for Western Union in San Francisco and upon her return to New Jersey worked in retail businesses. Margaret enjoyed taking road trips with her husband, Bob, which sometime included her sisters and nieces and nephews. After Robert's death, Margaret and her sister, Jane, would take many bus trips. One of her favorite vacation destinations was spending a week in Cape May each summer with extended family members, which included four generations. During such family gatherings, Margaret was well known for her enjoyment of competitive card games, her mental acuity and her subtle pride at winning games. Margaret enjoined the Cape May vacations until she reached the age of 91 and valued living independently until she was 97.
