Obituary of Gerhard Bay

Gerhard (Jerry) Bay, a resident of Whiting in Manchester Township, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at the age of 88. Born in Germany in May of 1926, Jerry came to the United States in 1947 and married Margaret on September 29, 1951. As a tool and die maker, he worked at Columbia University, in the mechanical engineering lab, for 25 years and then at Xerox Corporation, in a research lab. At retirement, Jerry and Margaret moved from Yonkers, NY, where they lived for 38 years, to Whiting, NJ. In his younger years, Jerry played soccer and refereed high school soccer, enjoyed playing tennis and bowling, and spent many hours caring for his home and garden. He was an avid and loyal NY Rangers and Yankees fan. Jerry also gave of his time by volunteering with Somebody Cares. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of (63) years, his two children, Linda A. Bay and her partner Daniel, and Mark A. Bay and his wife Elizabeth and his sister-in-law Anna Bruno, her husband Michael and their children Peter, Joseph and Christine and other nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 28th, at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home in Whiting, NJ. A mass, to be held the next day, on Monday, September 29th at 10:45 a.m., will be said for Jerry at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Jerry's name, to either the Alzheimer's Organization or a charity of each person's choosing.
