Obituary of Jeanne O'Donnell
Jeanne Carolyn (Greene) O'Donnell, 86 of Whiting, died on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Crestwood Manor in Whiting, NJ. Jeanne, daughter of Frank O. and Georgiana B. Greene, was born in Providence, RI on May 21, 1927. She graduated from Cranston High School in 1945. Upon graduation, she worked for United Wire. Jeanne lived in Cranston, RI and Brick, NJ before moving to Whiting in 2011. She was a member of the Legatus Organization of NJ and a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting.
Jeanne was predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Mottram, Frank Greene, Bertha Amitrano, Dorothy Machon and Betty Greene. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jack O'Donnell; six children, Karen Geiger and husband, Joseph, John and wife, Tina, Robert and wife, Lydia, Mary McIntyre and husband, Thomas, Elizabeth Smith and husband, David and Michael. Jeanne was also "Nana" to her 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren whom she loved "a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck." She was a devoted stay at home mom who enjoyed aerobics, water aerobics, knitting, golfing and dancing. She and Jack regularly vacationed with their children at the RI beaches where they were able to visit many relatives. She and her husband also traveled abroad extensively.
Jeanne and Jack retired to the NJ Shore where they especially loved taking long walks on the boardwalk. Jeanne spent the last two and a half years at Crestwood Manor where her deep faith, loving spirit, sense of humor, singing and dancing in her wheelchair made her well loved by the dedicated staff there. Visiting hours will be Friday, Jan. 31st from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday morning, Feb. 1st from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:45 a.m. at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Aid to the Church in Need, P.O. Box 220384, Brooklyn, NY 11222 would be appreciated.
